FAQ's

What age is middle school?
Middle schoolers are 12 - 14 years old.

What topics will be covered in the program?
Week 1: Getting to You, Overview & Key Concepts 
Week 2: Interpersonal Effectiveness (and Communication skills)
Week 3: Distress Tolerance (self-care and self-soothing)
Week 4: Emotional Regulation (recognising and accepting our emotions and how to manage them)
Week 5: Further skills based on the links between our thoughts, emotions and actions.
Week 6: Wrapping Up & Parent Meeting

What is the basic schedule for each session?
Each session is two hours and will follow this basic agenda:
  • Checking In
  • Focusing Activity
  • Skills Learning
  • Break
  • Skills Learning
  • Transitioning Out

How many participants will be in a group?
There will be 6 - 8 participants.

How many leaders will there be with the participants?
There will be two leaders at each session.

Will my child be comfortable in the environment?
We keep the space warm and supportive for the kids, and no-one is forced to share anything they don't want to. However, we do ask for active participation.

Will there be an opportunity for parent involvement?
Parents will be included with adolescents for the last session.

Are there exclusion criteria for participation?
Participants may not be actively suicidal.
